Родился 27 ноября 1943 в Баффало (штат Нью-Йорк, США).
В 1965 получил степень бакалавра, окончив Уильямс колледж в Уильямстаун (штат Массачусетс, США). В 1968 стал магистром богословия, приняв участие в совместной программе Колумбийского университета и Объединенной богословской семинарии.В 1974 г. защитил докторскую диссертацию (PhD). Тема: "M. M. Tareev: A Study in Russian Ethics and Mysticism." Awarded "Distinction."
В 1974-1982 гг. являлся доцентом Колумбийского университета. В 1982-1990 гг. - доцент Батлеровского университета. В 1990-!993 гг. - профессор Батлеровского университета.
С 1993 г. постоянный профессор религии Батлеровского университета.
В 1991-1997 гг. возглавлял Департамент философии и религии Батлеровского университета.
Женат. Отец троих детей.
