A conference on St. Nicholas Cabasilas is to be held in Slovakia on “The problem of theology, mysticism, and philanthropy”
A conference will be held at the Orthodox Theological Faculty of the University of Prešov in Prešov (Slovakia) as part of a research project (VEGA No. 1/0276/11) “The phenomenon of freedom - the value of cultural and social identity”, on 9 October 2012. This international academic conference is dedicated to the 620th anniversary of the death of St. Nicholas Cabasilas, and is entitled “St. Nicholas Cabasilas. The problem of theology, mysticism, and philanthropy”.
The conference aims to familiarize the academic public with the achievements of a number of academic disciplines. Thematically, the reports must cover both the life and work of Nicholas Cabasilas, and the wider spheres of theology, philosophy, religions, historiography, ethics, social work, psychology, pedagogy, and their relationship to spirituality, mysticism, or philanthropy.
Organizers hope that the wide interdisciplinary scope of the conference will lead to interesting observations and suggestions for the development of the humanities and social sciences. Considerable time at the conference will be devoted to discussion.
Applications are accepted for the conference before June 30, 2012, and full text of presentations by e-mail to: sak.stefan@gmail.com by September 10, 2012.
Conference languages will be Slovak, Czech, Russian, Polish and English.
