Обучался в Trinity College (Дублин, Ирландия) и St John's College (Кембриджский университет).

В 1988-1999 гг. преподавал историю Церкви в Даремском университете.

С 1999 г. работает в Ноттингемском университете.

Академические интересы: богословие в эпоху Реформации и контр-Реформации.
