Краткая биографическая справка:

Профессор на пенсии Дюкского университета. Специалист в области изучения истории христианства в период позднего средневековья и раннего модерна. Особый интерес вызывает изучение истории исследования Библии в Европе в 1350-1600 гг.

Получил бакалаврские степени в Wheaton College и Drew University.

Защитил докторскую диссертацию (PhD) в Гарвардском университете. 

Преподает в Дюкском университете с 1971 г. До этого преподавал в Lancaster Theological Seminary.
