The abbot of the Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos in Greece will be released on a 300.000-euro bail after a 3-month imprisonment, local media quoted an Athens court spokesperson as saying on Thursday.
Abbot Ephraim is accused of arranging land swaps between the Vatopedi Monastery and the state which are thought to have cost the government millions of euros.
His arrest in December 2011 triggered protests from the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Orthodox Church.
Earlier in December of that year, he visited Moscow at the head of the delegation that brought the venerated Belt of the Mother of God to the Russian capital.
